The course offers an introduction to international commercial arbitration. Its main purpose is to discuss the interactions and tensions between State power and the power of private parties in relation to the regulation and functioning of international arbitration throughout its main characteristics: arbitrability, scope of the arbitration agreement, jurisdiction of arbitrators (compared to jurisdiction of state courts), law applicable to the arbitral proceedings, law applicable to the merits, challenge and enforcement of arbitral awards.
