DAFF 25A37 - Politics for Business: Assessing political and regulatory risks
There is a significant industry dedicated to the study of how changes in politics and policy will impact businesses. The course is an introduction to the practice of this discipline, which draws on the study of political science to help businesses understand the impacts of politics. Key to this discipline is translating conclusions drawn from the study of political science into meaningful implications for businesses. An underlying thread throughout the course will be focusing on how to focusing on the concrete consequences of political and policy developments.
The course will trace key concepts in political risk, including assessing political and regulatory stability, and how these different concepts interact. We will consider issues such as how different political systems drive different types of policy-making and how political ideologies translate into policy implications.

One oral briefing followed by short Q&A on the impacts of political stability on regulatory risk (25%).
One oral briefing on a political risk scenario plan (35%).
One 1,000-word essay on topic of choice, assessing the likely political risk impacts of an upcoming event in the year ahead briefing (40%).
