BHUM 13A02 - The Question of Palestine through documents

This reading seminar is linked to the undergraduate course given by Jean-Pierre Filiu in the Autumn semester of 2024-2025. These sessions aim to approach the Palestinian Question through historical documents (e.g., the Balfour Declaration (1917), United Nations Resolution 242 (1967), or the Declaration of Principles (1993)) as well as literary documents (Ghassan Kanafani, Jean Genet…), addressing one of the most debated issues in contemporary history. This reading seminar does not pretend to cover all the complex and multi-faceted developments of the "Israeli-Palestinian conflict," but it is dedicated to understanding, description, and interpretation of the various phases of the so-called "Palestinian Question". Each two-hour session will focus on one of critical period of such a dense historical cycle, with discussions of the foundational texts of the Palestinian Question and compulsory readings in order, for the students, to be best prepared before each class.
