OAFP 6320 - Managing and promoting cultural projects

Beside general rules applicable to all kinds of institutions, culture calls for specific decisions concerning the contribution of artists, curators, speakers, debaters, donors and, no less importantly, the public. On what basis those decisions are made, on which criteria programs are selected, how is the media handled, identifying what can attract the public to attend and participate, not to mention how public authorities, both local and national, need to be dealt with: these are some of the issues this course will address drawing both on the instructor's personal experience as well as on best practices in this domain across the world.

The course shares light on how the cultural world is shapen, giving the opportunity of embracing the wide typology of possible jobs in the Art world, through encounters with professional from around the world in art and culture, both in the public and private sector.

While culture is somehow an autonomous field, it badly needs to infiltrate public life by remaining accessible to all, by defending freedom of expression and by promoting creativity.
