This course has been designed to overtake the traditional frontal class module and consists in an active conversation where teachers engage with students in a peer-to-peer approach, providing inputs from their executive experience.
This course builds from the history of international climate negotiations and practical training where students will learn how to approach negotiations from the perspective of different participants. A fundamental requirement for achieving successful solutions to climate change and the many environmental issues facing the global community is an effective approach to the process of international negotiations, starting with:
1) A general understanding of the main scientific, environmental and economic aspects of the climate issue in the context of the Paris Agreement;
2) An open analysis of the major actors, policies and negotiation framework; including multilateral fora such as G7 and G20;
3) An overview of the options and different approaches for managing the climate issue;
4) An understanding of the role of the Global South in climate negotiations.
By mixing frontal lectures (with the participation of external guests) students' presentation and simulation the course aims at providing a strong understanding of the climate change issue. In particular, the course focuses on international climate negotiations through the engagement of the students in different simulation models and interactive workshops.
The workshops are designed to develop analytical and professional skills that are important for supporting and conducting successful negotiations such as: teamwork, analysis of large amount of policy documents, selection and summarizing of the key elements of a policy process, drafting policy documents, assessing and presenting stakeholders priorities, and public speaking in institutional and diplomatic context.

2) An open analysis of the major actors, policy, and negotiation framework
3) An overview of the options and different approaches for managing the climate issue.

Final essay 2000 words (70%). Please note that it will be at the discretion of the students to pick a topic for the final essay and present it to the lecturers.
