Litigation funding, also often referred to as ‘Third Party Funding”, deals, in essence, with the non-recourse funding of legal claims in return for a share of the proceeds.
While prohibited or marginally used for many years, litigation funding has been booming over the past few years in various legal sectors such as arbitration, patents, antitrust, and commercial disputes. It is said that more than € 10 billion are now invested in law suits everywhere in the world.
This 8-hour workshop – which is the first of the kind in Europe – seeks to familiarize future attorneys, in-house counsels, judges and arbitrators with the various legal, economic and ethical issues raised by litigation funding.
The course will be divided in four seminars of 2 hours each: 1) general introduction to litigation funding 2) the laws of litigation funding 3) the economics of litigation funding 4) the ethics of litigation funding.
1 or 2 litigation funding specialists (lawyer or financiers) will be invited to share their views and personal experience.
