OADI 2275 - US Diplomacy and Foreign Policy since WW II

***UPDATED for 2024/25***

This course will be centered on the factors that determine the foreign policy and diplomacy of the United States today. The twelve sessions will be divided into historical reviews, case studies, the issue of American exceptionalism and how domestic considerations in the United States factor into foreign policy. Case studies will include Latin America, Mexico and China; the historical review will include the 19th century, American civilization and upcoming challenges.

1. How US foreign policy is shaped by history, politics, and American ideology.

2. Case studies of recent historical examples of US foreign policy and diplomacy.
