BART 97A36 - #FYVP: Exploring the Dominant Frames in Visual Mediums
A12-week visual arts workshop that attempts to understand the sophisticated power structures and influential visual forces behind the retelling and adaptation of both classic and popular stories through the medium of film, video and other mediums.
(#foryourviewingpleasure) is a way to look at stories beyond the screen or written page. Each week we will explore the impact of storytelling through some quintessential films, their impact and subsequent cultural counterpoints. The students will then use the themes in order to (re)visualize their own take on the story. The workshop is divided into three parts: contextualization, conceptualization and visualization. All image research will be done online (hence # in the course title), and is also a way to rethink the vehicle of speed, access and ease as well as the multiplicity of output.
