OAFP 6570 - Exploring European Union Communication: A practical Study of Public Communication Campaigns

Effective communication plays a vital role in the European Union's mission to inform and convince both its citizens and stakeholders about its policies, values, and political significance. The EU employs various media channels, ranging from traditional platforms like television, radio, and billboards to the latest social media and digital platforms, influencers, and even virtual reality, to share its narrative.

This course offers a hands-on approach to crafting communication campaigns for the European Union. Drawing on recent case studies the European Commission, the European Parliament, and other EU institutions, students will learn about the practical steps necessary to successfully execute a public communication campaign across Europe and beyond. The course covers essential aspects, including project management, communication strategy, creative concept and campaign idea, media planning, assets' production, budget compliance and delivery.

Guided by real-life insights from experienced communication agency consultants, students will develop an understanding of the multitude of stakeholders involved in the EU communication decision-making process. They will also gain exclusive insights into the internal dynamics between EU clients and their communication agencies, while exploring commonly employed communication tools and practices.

Upon successfully completing this course, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the political significance and intricate nature of EU public communication. Furthermore, they will acquire a deeper knowledge of the diverse actors and professional roles crucial to the development of impactful public communication campaigns.
