O7IM 2045A - Financial modeling and risks analysis from project finance

The aim of this course is to provide each student with practical financial modelling and risk analysis skills. Students will learn how to model in Excel forward-looking financial statements and cash flow forecasts, as well as debt coverage ratios, equity ratios and sensitivity analysis. This analysis is relevant for company management, debt financiers, equity investors and public authorities. In addition, the course will provide an overview of risk analysis and mitigation used in project and hybrid finance. While we use Project Finance structuring as a learning tool, the skills acquired are applicable to a wide range of financial fields. Practical case studies in the infrastructure and renewable energy sectors will illustrate the concepts

Attendance at all six lectures is mandatory. Since the work is practical and skills based, students will complete homework modelling assignments accounting for 50% of the total grade in the course.

The principal focus of the course is on application, so students will complete a modelling project in two parts, worth 50% of the total grade in the course. The final exam, covering financial modelling, analysis and risks, will count for 50% of the total grade.
Lectures, group and individual work both in course and at home. The emphasis will be on learning and applying practical skills, so student participation will be key.
