DAFF 25A04 - Migration Policies in Europe

What are migration policies in Europe trying to achieve? This seminar will discuss the issues European policymakers seek to address, from curbing irregular migration and increasing migrant returns to making asylum systems work, meeting labor market needs, and leveraging migration for development. We will explore the range of actors who shape this agenda, and how policies at EU and Member State level are intertwined. The course will also show the effects of European policies on migrants and host communities, as well as countries of origin and transit.
