OAFP 8020 - One Health as a catalyst for more resilient healthcare systems - from concept to practice

The field of One Health uses a multidisciplinary and holistic approach to the understanding, promotion and maintenance of human, animal, and environmental health in the context of the sustainable development goals (SDGs). One Health is not a new concept but has grown in importance with public health and development threats such as antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and recent pandemics. The One Health approach is particularly adapted to identify the various underlying causes of complex ‘wicked' health challenges and to develop effective solutions to address them. This course will introduce the One Health systems concept and mainly shed light at the bidirectional relationships and impacts of human and animal health, as well as human and environmental health. From concept to action, the course will also address existing One health collaboration models and partnership structures. The course will address topics such as AMR, emergency preparedness, the impacts of changing ecology, biodiversity loss and climate on health, food and water insecurity.
