BART 97A07 - Comparative calligraphy

"Calligraphy is the journey of the eternal discovery of harmony and balance". Bahman Panahi Calligraphy is considered to be one of the noblest arts developed by mankind throughout the history of civilizations. Practiced by great scholars, writers, and poets alike, it is an art which is intimately linked to literature, poetry, philosophy, mysticism and spirituality. At the theoretical level, this course will introduce students to the world of calligraphy. At the practical level it will be focused on the practice of Persian calligraphy, and through this, students will create works exploring the composition of letters and words. An atmosphere of recollection takes place by observing the Master calligrapher guide and correct the exercises of his students. It is an opportunity to discover and handle the traditional materials which have remained unchanged for centuries: the reed pen, the "Qalam", the ink on silk fiber, and the rose water… Objectifs pédagogiques / Academic expectations The practice of calligraphy cultivates concentration and inner focus, paying great attention to our gestures, postures and breathing. Learning this discipline is a unique way of approaching different cultures and civilizations filled with richness and refinement. It is also an opportunity for the participants to follow a course taught by a master calligrapher and internationally renowned artist. - Classroom attitude: active participation, involvement and commitment (20%) - Two final artistic productions(50%) - A research/essais paper (5-7 pages) or presentation (PowerPoint, video or other) on a specific theme relating to the world of writing or calligraphy, chosen by the student (30%)
