KDDC 2006A - The reality behind the screen: a deep dive into the social networks' business models and their strug
Social networks and platforms are part of our daily life but do we know how Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, Snapchat, Netflix etc. operate and what the governments are doing to regulate their (over) dominance?
This course will not only explain the authorities' attempts to “regulate” the major platforms but will also give a tool kit to decipher how social networks operate from the inside and their evolving business models. This course will also offer a global perspective on the proliferation of illegal content online (fake news, hate speech…) and will address the new societal questions that arose with the emergence of social media on the internet (virality, filter bubbles, data privacy...). When relevant, this course will host distinguished speakers (member of Parliament, regulator, journalist…).
