DAFF 25A68 - European Union foreign policy towards the people's Republic of China : 2013 Onwards

Please be reminded that it is a course on European Studies, not China or Asian Studies. This seminar course will allow students to explore the field of study on the European Union's (EU) foreign policy with a focus on the relations with the People's Republic of China (PRC). Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the EU and the PRC in 1975, this set of bilateral relations has undergone different stages of interactions. This course will concentrate on the time period starting from 2013. Specifically designed for undergraduate students, this course will start by introducing the fundamental knowledge about EU foreign policy: overview of the field of study in the literature, and the main actors and the coherence issue in EU foreign policy. In the second part, students will learn about a brief historical overview of EU foreign policy towards the PRC before 2013. The third part will look into EU foreign policy towards the PRC in the post-2013 timeframe through different dimensions: economic and trade, foreign and security, values and norms, and the EU facing US-PRC strategic competition.
