Africa is currently a continent with some of the best opportunities for high investment returns and rapid
yet sustainable socio-economic development. Africa is very big because Africa's narrative, potential
and in some case reality, is deliberately under-estimated. Views on the continent are corrupted but
become different when reliable data and comparisons are available. However, while Africa
undoubtedly has great potential, so too is the size of the challenge that African leaders face as
countries prepare to take their place in the future global economy. They must transform their
economies in the context of a harsh global climate, where patterns of industrialization have changed.
This course will help you navigate the challenges presented to Africa by adverse global context
megatrends when pursuing structural transformation. It will help understand political developments
within countries and across the continent that influence choices and limit policy space.
