ODEC 9045 - An Introduction to Economic Sanctions & Export Controls

Economic sanctions and trade controls (sanctions) have become a central element of foreign and national security policy. Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine has brought a new era for sanctions policy and enforcement. But sanctions and export controls are used in a broad variety of contexts, responding to various international issues, tensions, and crises. This workshop will provide a comprehensive introduction to EU/US sanctions with a particular focus on the sanctions imposed against Russia. It will also discuss current events and developments in EU/US sanctions law, policy, and enforcement. Taking a practitioner's perspective, the workshop will study compliance expectations and some of the challenges companies face in implementing sanctions.
