K2SP 3575 - Gender and social policy: exploring alternatives in Latin America in dialogue with the Global South
There are many ways-both direct and indirect-in which social policy has been designed to include gender. This course will explore feminist theories that have informed the welfare state; the different institutional and legal forms feminist social policy has taken (with an emphasis in Latin America in dialogue with the Global South) and pressing contemporary issues such as climate change, access to abortion, technology, and conflict.

Every week there will be an assigned reading (maximum 30 pages) and students (in groups of 3) will be asked to answer 2 or 3 questions about the readings at the beginning of class.
Students should also work on a case study. The third session they must hand in a synthesis of the case study they will advance. On session 6 they should hand in an outline of their project. On session 11 there will be student presentations and student commentaries.

Autumn 2023-2024
This is course that is based on the idea of autonomous, cooperative learning. This means that reading before each session is mandatory and class participation is highly recommended.
Throughout the term, students will develop a group project that will represent 40%
Every session will start with an in-class exercise which will represent 30%
Student participation: 30%
The sessions will be a combination of group work, in class discussion and short lectures analyzing and synthesizing the main issues.
