K6ET 2085 - Sustainable Urban Mobility

The necessity of accessing goods and services in cities has turned urban mobility into a major source of concern and of opportunity for multiple stakeholders and society at large. Over the last decades, the shaping of cities by and for motorized transport dramatically changed mobility patterns and have created numerous challenges as to how transport can be a part of the ecological transition. This workshop aims to engage students with the topic of sustainable urban mobility in European cities, considering the need for reducing negative externalities and for increasing access for all. Most of all, it will allow students to experience ways of co-creating and defending sustainable mobility policies, with a focus on active mobility. Through readings, course contents and discussions, students will explore fundamental concepts and policy options for promoting sustainable and equitable mobility. During the sessions, they will work on concrete case studies of European cities dealing with mobility challenges, which they will attempt to address by taking the role of different stakeholders. For that purpose, they will need to remain aware of environmental challenges to be solved, and of the daily interactions that people have when walking, cycling and using transport systems.
