ASPO 25A22 - Major Controversies in International Relations

Course Description

This course explores several key debates within the disicpline of International Relations. Although the course's content has a strong theoretical component, it is not structured around the main encompassing and traditionnal approaches such as realism, liberalism, constructivism etc. Rather it familarizes with some of the field's crucial concepts and middle-range theories. Each session is devoted to the analysis of one question that has sparked a notable controversy. The course scrutinizes the context within which each of the examined notions and propositions emerged. It determines whether their content has changed over time, and if so why. It wonders how these debates relate to each other, and how they could be useful to understant today's world politics.
