F1ID 4060 - Global Governance: Overcoming Fragmentation

This course explores the coexistence of different regimes of global governance (trade and investment law, human rights, development cooperation, climate change, etc.), asking whether bridges can be built across these regimes to improve synergies and avoid inconsistencies. It will consider, for instance, the linkage between trade and "non-trade" issues; how transnational corporations can be held accountable; and the role of global development goals such as the SDGs in ensuring coherence across different regimes.

Assessment will be based on:
- (a) the oral presentation, during classes, of certain arguments, based on prepared materials (40%);
- (b) an individual essay, in the form of a "reform proposal", at the end of the semester (written essay of maximum 1,500 words) (50%)
- (c) class participation (10%).

Feedback: The tutor will provide oral feedback to the presentations in class and written feedback on the final essay
