DAFF 25A70 - The Iranian revolution and its impact ont the middle East and world politics
The Iranian Revolution in 1979 was a turning point in Middle Eastern and global contemporary politics as it ushered a reshaping of the balance of powers in the region. The establishment of the Islamic Republic resulted in deep changes in the ideological and political landscapes: it impacted political Islam, the regional equilibrium as well as Iran's place in the international community, and reactivated rivalries and confessional tensions with neighboring countries. The purpose of this seminar is to provide keys for understanding the historical and ideological foundations of the revolutionary regime and its foreign policy. The study of the Iranian political and religious model through a multidisciplinary perspective will help understand the immediate consequences of the Revolution, its longer-terms effects until nowadays as well as the regional reactions.
