AECO 25A15 - Political Economics

The course is to introduce the students to the current state of political economy. We will discuss the theoretical models of voting, electoral competition, interest group politics, non-democratic politics, political transition. The goal is to provide the students with the understanding of the main theoretical models and of the recent empirical research testing these models.

Basic command of microeconomics (in particular, game theory) and basic understanding econometrics.
Autumn 2022-2023
Comments on research papers (45%): three times during the semester, the students will have one week to write 1000 words critical essays on assigned research papers. These will be take-home assignments. Final exam (55%) will be also a one-week take-home exam where the students will write similar essays on two research papers they would be able to choose from a list of four papers.
