OASP 2095 - Fundamentals of Global Health

“Introduction to Global Health” aims to present this essential and changing sector to students entering PSIA Masters courses. Indeed, with the Covid 19 pandemic, global health is more than ever a central issue in international affairs. We will address the main concepts and actors of global health by mobilizing a multidisciplinary approach. History, Political science, Epidemiology, Anthropology… Sciences Po students are perfectly skilled to absorb multiple tools coming from several disciplines and use them in their professional career to be relevant leaders in the Global Health landscape. This course also aims to allow students who have chosen the "Global Health" concentration within PSIA to be able to choose a pathway more oriented towards international health and development or a pathway oriented towards global health governance.

By the end of the course, students will be able to:
1. Discuss the main Global Health topics
2. Identify the most relevant Global Health actors
3. Apply Global Health concepts within multisectoral environments

- Reading and Preparation for Class: 2 hour a week
- Research and Preparation for Group Work: 10 hours a semester
- Research and Writing for Individual Assessments: 4 hours a semester
No prerequisites are needed

Participation: 10%
Individual assessment at the end of the semester (2 hours formal exam): 45%
Take-home paper to be developed in working groups during the semester: 45%

Written feedback to the working group and written feedback individually at the end of the semester.
