K2SP 3330 - Leading in Complexity and Design Thinking

With COVID-19, the complexity of our world has become all too apparent. This course equips students with the skills, mindset and resilience required to lead in complexity, embrace tensions and communicate in ambiguity. A significant part of the course is spent in group work on a design thinking project, with time involvement fluctuating between different phases of the design thinking project. The project will equip students with practical experience: Students will demonstrate their ability to brainstorm, create, test and implement innovative and creative solutions to challenges around a more sustainable and inclusive future. The course is highly participatory and follows a cycle of knowledge transfer, practical doing, feedback, and personal reflection. It introduces students to widely used approaches to managing disruption, innovation and change such as Design Thinking, Scrum, Adaptive Leadership. An additional aspect of the course is the strong emphasis on leadership development. Through personal reflective essays, students will reflect on their leadership style and preference and get feedback in group / peer coaching sessions.

Cours magistral seul
English
You will be required to carry out a design thinking project to apply your theoretical learning directly into practice. While I will attempt to cover as much as I can during course hours, workload will peak significantly during research and prototyping phases. You are responsible to your team and regular participation and active input is essential. There is a wealth of resources around scrum, design thinking and future of work more broadly (books, websites, blogs, podcasts, magazines such as Harvard Business Review, videos, etc.). You are encouraged to actively educate yourself on those subjects. The more you do so, the more this course will be beneficial to you.
