The course will address history,purposes and features of what it is commonly called “development cooperation”,framing this within the broader context of the international relations, starting from decolonization.It will address theoretical policy concepts,their practical implementation,instruments and the regulatory framemork as well. The course will notably(but not exclusively) take the view point of the European Union(the biggest aid provider in the world),showing the relationship between the process of European Integration and its action worldwide in this field. A special focus will be concentrated on Africa,dealing with the multidimensional reality of the continent and its states,including an overview of its continental organization(African Union).Again a special attention will be given to the relations between Europe and Africa(having in mind that in the same period of the course a EU-Africa Summit will be held). Policy fields which will be more specifically addressed are,ia:trade,migration,peace&security,governance,economic and social transformations. Key issues of globalization will constitute a critical reference during the whole course which will aim at being comprehensive and holistic.
