AECO 24A11 - Microeconomics : Information, Design, and Institutions

The purpose of this course is to study how the optimal design of institutions can solve some important economic issues. We will start by the social choice question and see how a welfare analysis can be performed under different conditions. Then we will introduce the main notions of game theory and auction theory. These analytical tools will be used to study different questions such as public goods provision, asymmetric information, or prices discrimination under imperfect competition. We will conclude this course by confronting theoretical predictions to observed behaviors in the lab and in the field.
