Acquiring familiarity with the main currents of thinking on capitalism in recent social theory. Understanding global capitalism's institutional diversity and dynamics. Understanding the historical transformations of the global economic order since the 1970s. Being able to navigate complexity of today's economic world using structured theoretical thinking.

In-class participation. Students are expected to contribute to in-class discussions at least in some of the sessions (depending on the class size). Participation will count towards 10% of the final grade. In-class group presentation. Student will form groups and prepare short presentations of one of the assigned readings (up to 15 minutes). PowerPoint slides are not necessary but may be used (about 5 slides). There will be no presentations in weeks 1 and 12. Group presentations will count towards 40% of the final grade. Reaction paper. Students will write reaction papers demonstrating an in-depth engagement with one of the topics discussed during the course and using at least one of the readings related to the chosen topics. The papers will be between 1,000 to 1,500 words, excluding footnotes and bibliography, and can follow any of the academic writing styles, provided they do it consistently. Detailed instructions will be given in class. Topics will be agreed upon with the instructor no later than 18 April, papers are due no later than midnight 25 April. The paper will count for 50% of the final grade.
