BART 97A36 - #FYVP: Exploring the Dominant Frames in Visual Mediums

#FYVP is an 8-week visual arts workshop that attempts to understand the sophisticated power structures and influential visual forces behind the retelling and adaptation of both classic and popular literature through the medium of film, video and the internet. This workshop (#foryourviewingpleasure) is a way to look at literature beyond the written page. Each week an unnamed extract of a text will be the starting point for a further exploration of its visual counterpoint and subsequent cultural appropriation. The student will then use the theme in order to (re)write and (re)visualize their own story. The workshop is divided into three parts: contextualization, conceptualization and visualization. All image research will be done online, more specifically YouTube (hence # in the course title), and a way to rethink the vehicle of use, access and ease.
