BART 97A22 - « Force of Law » – A film workshop about judicial narratives

The workshop will be held online. Through practical activities and collective discussions on films and theoretical models, the workshop will tackle the connections between artistic research and judicial research. Students will be invited to produce and edit a short film. The resulting works will be presented as a specifically conceived online series, to be launched at the end of the workshop. The workshop will examine issues related to legal procedures and the dramaturgy of the trial, focusing on the similarities between “documentary value” in films and the juridical notion of evidence: in both cases, a community establishes the truthfulness of an object (tangible or intangible). If the trial can be considered one of the oldest and most widespread formats of collective research, the workshop will use such format to study and question filmic language, both practically and theoretically.
