KAFP 4030 - Economics of European Integration

The scope of the course is to familiarize the students with the economic governance of the European Union, and with the challenges for member states. The first part (Francesco Saraceno) deals with the historical developments leading to today's institutional architecture, and with the macroeconomic governance of the EU, notably the Stability Pact and the ECB. The second part (Matteo Cavallaro) deals with the microeconomics of economic integration, and tackles issues as the common agricultural policy, competition policy, and trade.

Class examination is divided in two parts: 1) a limited time multiple choice questions exam: the MCQ test will last 1 hour within a 4h window to complete it; (50% of the final note) 2) a group assignment in the form of a written paper. (50% of the final note)
The textbook from which we will extract most of the material is R. Baldwin and C. Wyplosz (BW hereafter), The Economics of European Integration 6th Edition McGraw Hill, 2019. Buying the book is not mandatory, even if suggested. You may use previous editions but it is your responsibility to make sure that the material covered is the same. Additional material may be posted on Google Drive.
